2010 MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT INFO:
This year will be the 24th Memorial Tournament in memory of Christopher.
Big things are planned for next year, the 25th anniversary of the Tournament & Fund
.
This year, as in the past, we will have the 13 and 15 and under age groups. Because of the many calls and e-mails inquiring about other age groups, we will include 16, 17 and 19 age groups if the interest is there (6 teams minimum each group)
The double elimination tournament games are held at many high school and college fields in SE Connecticut (Waterford, New London, East Lyme etc.). Games can be scheduled at any site within 50 miles assuming sufficient notice is given so all details and preparation can be addressed, umps, etc.
All baseballs with exception of first games' and umps' are supplied by various sponsors. We will attempt to have a site director at each game if possible for ball chasers, passing the hat etc.
If a protest is filed, the two umpires will have final decision. If they differ in their opinion, I will be contacted and settle the issue. If there is a game(s) rained out, it usually delays the tournament one day, as we have to wait on winner/loser pairing. On some occasions (weekends), we could ask for the postponed teams to play in the morning and then go to regular scheduled game later in the day as scheduled (Time could change)
Also, once I have finalized the brackets (a couple of days prior to start of tournament) please go to web site www.ChrisPotvinFund.com under DAILY NOTES for any changes throughout the tournament.
Any changes in scheduled games played between two teams (different site/time changes, etc.) I would have to be notified to put information on web site but the two teams would have to insure everyone involved in the change has been notified. If something happens that causes the game not to be played, I will listen to both sides and then determine as best I can who will take the loss. T-Shirts and hats will available and it would be nice if teams would encourage players' family and friends to help us out with this ($5 over cost)
If anyone knows of someone (knowledgeable of baseball) who would want to be a site director, please let me know. Passing the hat at every game would mean awarding additional scholarships.. The family has contributed over six thousand dollars over the past three years so we can maintain our promise of awarding 20, $1,000, scholarships per year.
This Memorial Tournament in memory of my son means the world to me and it is great to help students with their collage education in his memory. Hope we can all work together to make this another good Tournament.
Everyone wants to be a winner, but being a super nice person that everyone admirers will always leave you with that "Supper Inner Feeling"

The Potvin family thanks the management at Dodd Stadium who arrange for us to play tournament games there. They have been one of the greatest supporters over the years. Mr Potvin has received hundreds e-mails and phone calls from teams and players, informing him of the great experience it was for them to play at Dodd.
