"The Diamond"

A Tribute to Christopher

By The Potvin Family

lineflag

The diamond stood before a boy, who reached to steal the stars

It laid itself outside the mound with dreamers batting far

How could a simple diamond, engraved within the land

Lead a son to find worship, from a fathers loving hand

The shortstop and the pitcher were played by one as two

A boy who looked out past the mound to futures he once knew

How does a father and mother stop their edging cheer

for a son who once stole bases, has stolen all their tears

The clock ticks on and time passed. The field is still the same

remembering that yesterday this boy ran to play the game

Time still sees him standing there, ageless on the mound

No Limits set, not one regret, just cracking, clapping sounds

The spirit of a youthful boy whose inning never came

Has left his place among the team, his spirit is the game

Listen to the whisper, the wind has brought to call

Hear his voice within the boys, living for the ball

Memories will linger in loving minds and hearts

Tomorrows keep coming, New seasons always start

Christopher brings his legacy here among the stands

Where fathers bring another son by guided loving hands

The lights have dimmed, The inning fly

A record set, a challenge met, friends all say good-bye

Look past the dust, where no one sees, a silhouette in stride

Kicking up dirt, rounding out bases, crossing home with a slide

The sun is hot, the field is dry, cheers, distracting moan.

Your diamond is in Heaven's fiels, the play has lead you home
